Monterey Bay Employers to Vie For "Best Places To Work" Awards Spring 2010

On June 25th, 12 companies will have bragging rights. That is when the Monterey County Business Council will present awards to the "Best Places To Work" in Monterey County. More than 75 companies representing private, enterprise, nonprofit, and public / government organizations are expected to participate in the project. Department of Labor (DOL) Budget "2011 Budget Requests for the Workforce Innovation Fund and Youth Innovation Fund", Presented by Jane Oates, Assistant Secretary, Employment & Training Administration (ETA)

In collaboration with the Department of Education, DOL ETA is creating a Workforce Innovation Fund. Drawing on more than $107 million in Workforce Investment Act (WIA) resources, the Innovation Fund will offer competitive grants to partnerships that will evaluate innovative approaches to employment and training. The information gained will allow for replication of proven practices across the workforce system. DOL ETA is also requesting an increase in $153 million to establish a new Youth Innovation Fund with a focus on serving out-of-school youth to create more than 20,000 summer and year-round employment opportunities.
